Lots of exciting events coming up in September .
Firstly on September 2nd we have our CHARITY NIGHT. This year our charity is British Heart Foundation and we aim to have a bit of fun and raise money. Bring along items to auction, loose change in case you get fined for anything we can think of and be prepared to bid long and hard for everything from a pot of jam to a bottle of …
This is followed on September 9th by a visit from Andrew Mckay and Carole Etherton. Andrew and Carole live on the Gower Peninsula outside Swansea, South Wales. Both are accomplished singers and instrumentalists, Andrew having played the obscure Crane Duet concertina for more years than he cares to, or possibly can, remember. Carole, who plays a range of early woodwind instruments, was also a resident singer at several folk clubs in her native Sussex. Before joining forces, they performed solo and with different shanty groups at folk clubs and festivals in Britain, Continental Europe and the United States.
23rd September sees the return of club favourite, Tom McConville. Tom has never forgotten his roots and is as happy in the intimate atmosphere of a small folk club as he is at the largest festivals. Tom McConville is a world class act and we are lucky to have him visiting us.
30th September sees Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer joining us at the club. They effortlessly blend traditional material with contemporary sounds. Their performances showcase new interpretations of old songs alongside original self penned tunes and new contemporary songs that are entirely at home in the tradition. They have developed a sound that is both familiar and fresh. Strong believers in letting the music tradition live and breathe through sensitive interpretation, Vicki and Jonny allow the melody to sing without any constraints. And if you have never seen or heard a nyckelharpa, come along and be amazed.
So, lots going on, come along and join us, usual place, usual time.
