Bill Crawford at Bodmin Folk Club 24th January

By | January 22, 2025

We are pleased to welcome Bill Crawford to Bodmin Folk Club.
He has visited many times in the past as a floor singer but this time we are being treated to a whole evening..
Born and raised in Exeter, Bill has been involved in the folk scene since the early sixties and has been singing unaccompanied, MCing and organising folk clubs and events for over 60 years. He was a founder member of the Exeter Folk Song Club at the Jolly Porter and was a resident singer and MC there until 1969. In the 60’s he sang with acapella group The Oakleaves. He was resident at Amersham folk club, Bucks., and Stevenage, Hitchin and Welwyn Garden City folk clubs in Hertfordshire in the 70’s and 80’s. He returned to the Westcountry in 1990 and now lives in Somerset. His repertoire is largely but not exclusively traditional Westcountry drawing heavily on the Baring-Gould collection and Sharp’s Somerset singers. He is a regular performer and MC at Sidmouth, Dartmoor and Chippenham Folk Festivals and at traditional song events all over the country. In 2015 his long overdue first CD, ‘Biding Time’, was released and received a 4* review in English Dance and Song Magazine. For many years he was a member of Exeter based acapella group ‘The Claque’, until they retired in 2017. He continues to sing as a solo singer and runs an annual Traditional Song Weekend at Halsway Manor with Rosie Upton.
